The Transformative Story of Farida Bibi Through the Family Engagement Program
Farida Bibi, a 35-year-old survivor from Bithari in Swarupnagar block, endured unimaginable hardships. At the age of 30, she fell victim to human trafficking and was rescued from Mumbai in December 2019, after four grueling months.
Following her rescue, Farida faced severe abuse from her husband, leading her to leave him. She eventually remarried and found happiness with her second husband. However, her life took another devastating turn when her first husband posted personal pictures of her on social media.
This violation brought immense turmoil into Farida’s life. Her second marriage started to strain under the weight of the scandal, and her in-laws distanced themselves from her. Despite lodging a complaint against her first husband, the damage to her relationships left her traumatized and isolated.
Our Intervention
Through the Family Engagement Program (FEP), social workers stepped in to address the psychological distress Farida was experiencing and to mend the strained family dynamics. They held several discussions with her family, gradually fostering understanding and empathy.
Farida’s resilience shone through despite the stigma and humiliation she faced. The FEP team focused on creating an environment where her family could appreciate her struggles and support her journey to recovery.
