Sahani Khatun’s Journey to Empowerment

In the face of adversity, some stories shine as beacons of resilience and strength. Sahani Khatun’s journey is one such tale, demonstrating how determination can transform lives.

“Hi! I am Sahani Khatun, a trafficking survivor. I was trafficked in 2016 and rescued in 2018. Afterward, I joined a leadership program under Hasnabad Block, which helped me overcome the despair and setbacks I faced,” she shares.

This program became a turning point, empowering her to rebuild her life with courage and determination.

Through the leadership program, Sahani developed strong communication skills and the confidence to take charge of her life. But she didn’t stop there. Over the years, she fought relentlessly for her rights.

“I successfully reopened my Victim Compensation (VC) and Pending Cases (PC). With persistence, I managed my PC and ensured victim compensation through the DLSA Court,” Sahani proudly recounts.

Education was another milestone Sahani refused to leave behind. Despite her struggles, she completed her education up to the Higher Secondary level, proving that it’s never too late to pick up where you left off.

Empowered by her education and newfound confidence, Sahani sought ways to become financially independent.

“I communicated with Block Development Officers (BDOs) and other officials to explore employment opportunities,” she explains.

Her determination paid off when she joined the Subarna Swanirbhar Self-Help Group (SHG), which provided her with support and a recommendation for an ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme) helper role.

Today, Sahani stands as a symbol of resilience, courage, and hope. Her journey from despair to empowerment is a testament to the strength within us all to overcome challenges and forge a path to independence.

Sahani’s story reminds us that empowerment begins with believing in oneself, and with persistence, anything is possible.
