Environmental Action Initiative
Protecting Nature, Securing Our Future
We are dedicated to creating a healthy environment and promoting ecological balance through various activities. Every year on June 5th, we observe World Environment Day to raise awareness about environmental issues. Since 2009, with support from the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India, we’ve successfully run the National Environment Awareness Campaign Program in our project areas. Furthermore, we have established “Barasat Paribesh Bondhu” to further our environmental efforts locally. Our primary goal is to safeguard the world’s ecological balance. We organize numerous awareness and campaign programs focused on biodiversity conservation, working closely with the West Bengal Pollution Control Board and local government.
Empowering Women Through Self-Help Groups
Creating Opportunities, Building Futures
We want to empower women, Indian Grameen Services (BUP) has established 196 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with 2,354 women members across three blocks: Barasat-I, Barrackpur-II, and Amdanga. These groups enable women to engage in small-scale ventures for self-employment, including tailoring, embroidery, spice making, vegetable gardening, food processing, poultry farming, animal husbandry, and small businesses. Through these SHGs, women receive training, financial support, and mentorship to enhance their skills and grow their businesses. This initiative provides economic independence and solidarity among the members. Through these activities, women are not only generating income but also gaining a voice in family decisions. This initiative helps them become financially independent and actively involved in shaping their futures.
Nirmal Ghar Program
Sanitation, Health, and Empowerment for Every Village
We are devoted to transforming the villages of Harpara and Madhavpur in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, into Open Defecation Free (ODF) communities. This initiative not only aims to eliminate open defecation but also focuses on controlling and preventing waterborne diseases. Emphasizing personal hygiene, the program promotes handwashing practices according to government health guidelines. Addressing the lack of access to clean drinking water, the program has installed tubewells across various hamlets. In response to inadequate government-provided electricity, which hindered socio-economic development and contributed to child abuse incidents, portable solar lights have been introduced. These efforts collectively aim to enhance living conditions, ensure better health, and support the socio-economic growth of these remote villages.

Child Protection and Education
Empowering Youth, Securing Futures
We support vulnerable adolescent girls by raising awareness about unsafe migration and trafficking. We assist in their rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration. We also work with children from brick kiln families, providing formal education for younger children and functional literacy for older ones to enhance their future opportunities. Additionally, we collaborate with local authorities and organizations to create safe spaces for children at risk of exploitation. Our goal is to empower these vulnerable populations and break the cycle of poverty and abuse.
Health and Well-being
Promoting Health, Ensuring Well-being
In partnership with the German Leprosy and Tuberculosis Relief Association, we provide directly observed treatment (DOT) for tuberculosis. We also organize health and eye camps to offer medical support and operations for those in need. Our goal is to ensure that individuals in underserved communities have access to essential healthcare services. Through these initiatives, we aim to improve overall health outcomes and quality of life for those who may not otherwise have access to medical care. Furthermore, we collaborate with local healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care beyond our camps. We focus on preventive measures and early intervention; we strive to address health disparities and promote long-term well-being in these communities.
